Project Highlights

 Zooplus Administration

It sounds so… technical.

It is technical, it has no flashy, glossy features. However, it is very important in optimizing the operations of an online store.

So, what did you do for this “administration”?

We only developed a  part of the project. We worked on modules like the payment – order matching, order and  customer interfaces , CMS  and so on.

Which was the main challenge?

That was the integration with the existing team. The administration part of a huge international e-commerce site is really big. The admin modules are continually improved and new ones are developed, to meet customer demands. The greatest challenge was to integrate into the existing application architecture and collaboration with the team.

How many people were working on this?

There are 4 people that are still working for Zooplus Administration

 Xerox Romania

How did it all start?

Collaboration with Xerox started in February 2008, when the company needed adjusting their website according to their new branding. As an additional challenge, the Moldavian version of the website needed to be identical to the Romanian, with some minor differences in the partner list.

How long did it take?

About 1 month for the actual development and about 1 more month for QA, bugfixing and training.

… and how many programmers?

2 programmers were involved in developing the website: 1 for the layout and interface (Smarty, HTML, Javascript) the other for functionality (Mysql, Php).

 Myvideo

Is this a YouTube thingie?

Actually it is. It’s the largest video sharing website in Germany (not an easy thing to be).

What exactly did you do for Myvideo?

We were in charge of developing a “white label” solution. Namely, websites like web.de could easily integrate this solution as they have developed their own video sharing solution. All interface could be personalized, yet the functionality was the same. The development was split in 2 directions: backend development in Java and frontend development in Php. Database was Postgres (a 3-tier architecture). We were mainly focused on the frontend development.

How many people and for how long?

We started in late 2006 (December) with 3 programmers. We ended in July 2007 with 4 programmers.

 Zooclub

Also a community website…?

Yes, it was actually after our work for Myvideo has finished. Our clients chose us based on the good recommendations we had from MyVideo. They had a live website developed in Java + JSP + Postgres, but their developer was no longer available for updates. So we decided to re-develop the website, also changing the technology to something more flexible: Php+ Smarty + MySql.

So, you started in summer 2007?

We started in August and the re-writing of the engine was ready at the end of September. The “go-live” was in October, after thorough QA testing. The initial contracted work ended in November. However, we continued working on the website every month (adding new features and so on).

How many people?

The initial development was done by 4 programmers. The maintenance was handled by 2, sometimes 3 programmers.

 Busy Town Mysteries

Sounds like a book’s name…

Actually, it is a TV series name, that comes from a book series written by Richard Scary. In our case though, it is a big game that teaches preschoolers by using scientific methods how to solve different mysteries.

…and you developed this in Flash?

Actually, we have received the graphics and sounds from our client (Tribal Nova), and only programmed the game in AS3, Php and MySql. We used Flash to integrate and adjust the assets to our needs.

How many people and how long?

4 programmers worked for this project for 8 months.

 Thomas the Tank Engine

The cartoon?

Yes, that one.

What did you do?

We programmed 4 games and 1 world. We received all graphics and sounds from Tribal Nova. Additional challanges were the integration into PBS platform, with 3 main functions (sleep, wakeup, destroy).

What’s about sleep/wakeup/destroy?

The games needed to be paused (all animation and sounds stopped), resumed and destroyed after exit. Destroy means clear the Flah memory when the game stops. This is particularly complicated to control and test due to the garbage collection mechanism in Flash.

How many peopleworked fro this?

3 programmers worked for this project for 4 months.
