PHP Outsourcing

Isn’t php ‘write only’?

Php is a fast growing platform for developing websites. Although it was initially used by less-skilled-programmers (due to ease of learning), Php has managed to evolve as a popular open source solution. Frameworks like Cake Php, Zend Framework or have structured php development, thus combining speed of development with ease of maintenance.

What type of projects did you develop in php?

In working with Php, we became proficient in programming front-end solutions for large websites (the back-end being developed in Java), and the whole logic for medium and small sites. We have also developed a web application in php.

Which technologies have you used?

Along the road, we have successfully used CakePhp and Zend Framework (for php programming), Prototype, Scriptaculous and Dojo (for javascript interface and AJAX), Smarty (as a template engine).

How big is your Php team?

Currently, the team has 8 programmers and 1 tester.

What about development tools?

We have our own development server (with public access). The server is an Ubuntu Hardy (LTS) with Apache 2, Php 5, Mysql 5 and Postgres 8. This configuration is meant to be stable yet actual.

As a source control and versioning system, we currently use SVN, but have used CVS and Microsoft Source Safe.

For project management, we have used several tools, such as JIRA, Mantis, Flyspray and Qwarp (our in-house developed time management solution).
